Kindergarten at Ivy Primary Prep

At Ivy Primary Prep, our Kindergarten program sets the stage for academic excellence by not only meeting but exceeding state expectations. Anchored in our proprietary Ivy Path Curriculum, we provide a structured, enriching experience that builds each child’s academic foundation while fostering confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning. Our comprehensive focus on literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies goes above the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS), ensuring students are challenged, supported, and prepared for continued academic success.

In literacy, students engage in daily, evidence-based instruction that develops phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Through guided reading groups, structured phonics lessons, and intentional writing instruction, students build strong foundational skills in sentence construction, narrative writing, and opinion expression. By the end of the year, Ivy Kindergarten students are reading at a Level 1 reading level or higher, demonstrating readiness for elementary literacy demands.

Our math curriculum, aligned with the NJSLS, emphasizes number sense, addition and subtraction within 10, place value, measurement, and geometry. Students develop problem-solving skills through real-world applications, manipulatives, visual models, and hands-on activities that promote deep conceptual understanding and mathematical confidence.

A hallmark of Ivy’s Kindergarten program is our subject-based teaching model. Students learn from dedicated subject teachers who bring expertise and unique teaching styles to each discipline, including math, literacy, science and geography, creative art, Spanish, and extracurricular enrichment. This approach allows children to experience varied instructional methods, stay engaged across subjects, and benefit from educators who specialize in their areas of instruction.

Student progress is carefully monitored through ongoing assessments and intentional observation. Teachers assess students through close observation and documentation, individual conferencing, and continuous recording of academic growth. Families are actively involved through parent-teacher conferences, where assessments, progress, and individualized goals are shared and discussed to ensure strong home-school collaboration.

By the end of Kindergarten, Ivy students consistently meet and exceed New Jersey’s academic standards—reading at Level 1 or above, writing with purpose, and confidently solving grade-level math problems. Just as importantly, they grow into critical thinkers and independent learners, fully prepared to thrive in first grade and beyond.

With experienced educators, small class sizes, and a nurturing yet academically rigorous environment, Ivy Primary Prep offers a Kindergarten experience where children don’t just learn—they soar.
